Osmo Natural Oil Exterior Wood & Decking Stain - 2.5L
THE FULL-DECK AND FULL-FENCE SIZE
A penetrating oil finish for exterior timber. It soaks into the wood instead of forming a film on top, so it cannot crack, peel or flake — it wears thin and even, and refreshing it is one coat onto clean, dry timber with no sanding or stripping. On a deck or a fence line, that is the whole argument for using it.
Base coat and top coat in one, so no separate primer on sound timber. The 2.5L is also the only size Osmo will factory-tint: from 2.5 litres upward it is matched to 186 RAL Classic and 1950 NCS tones, which is why this is the tin that gets specified on commercial work.
What 2.5 litres covers
65 m² in one coat, or about 32 m² finished in the two coats bare timber needs — a deck of roughly 30 m², or ten 1.8m fence panels on one face.
That figure is for smooth planed timber. Rough-sawn fencing and weathered decking drink far more, so budget around 16 m² finished per tin on sawn timber. Ordering a tin short and recoating weeks later is what causes visible lap lines.
Before you order
- The colours are transparent, so the timber underneath changes the result and the tin will not match the printed swatch. Sample with a 5ml tester first.
- Pale tones give limited UV protection and are not the right choice for timber in strong direct sun. Darker shades hold up considerably better.
- Pine, spruce, Douglas fir, Accoya® and Kebony® should be pre-treated with Osmo WR Base Coat.
- Cedar, teak, mahogany, iroko and other oily hardwoods need around 12 weeks weathering before they will take the finish, then de-greying with Wood Reviver Power Gel. Green oak and idigbo are not recommended.
- Apply thinly. Over-application is the most common cause of a finish that stays tacky.
- Keep power washers off it — they strip the finish and shorten the recoat interval sharply.
