Wooster Gold Edge Firm Angle Sash Paint Brushes
If the Chinex is the specialist, the Gold Edge is the brush that does most of the actual work. Firm CT polyester, angled tip, and roughly half the price of the top of the range.
Polyester holds its stiffness in water the way natural bristle doesn't, so it stays usable through a full day of emulsion or waterborne trim. Firm rather than extra firm means it's still comfortable in thinner paints, where a very stiff brush leaves its own marks behind.
What firm buys you
Control. A firm filament puts the tip exactly where your hand says, which is the whole game when you're running a line along a ceiling or down a frame without masking either.
It also moves paint. Modern emulsions and waterborne satins are heavy-bodied, and a soft brush spends its energy bending rather than spreading.
Sizes
- 1.5 inch — frames, architrave and detail work.
- 2 inch — the standard cutting-in brush, and the one to buy if you're only buying one.
- 2.5 inch — longer runs, skirting, wall-to-ceiling lines.
- 3 inch — big cutting-in jobs, where reloading is the thing actually slowing you down.
Where it sits in the range
Softer than the Chinex FTP, firmer than the Silver Tip. If you paint mostly walls and standard trim, the middle of the range is the middle for good reason.
White and gold CT polyester filament, hardwood handle.
