THE SIZE FOR FURNITURE, WORKTOPS AND SMALL FLOORS
Polyx-Oil Original is a hardwax-oil: it penetrates the timber and leaves a microporous wax film instead of a sealed lacquer skin, so it cannot crack, peel or flake. On furniture that matters more than on a floor — a lacquered tabletop that gets chipped has to be stripped, whereas an oiled one is spot-repaired with a cloth and a thin coat.
The 750ml tin is the size for a piece rather than a room: a dining table and chairs, a kitchen island top, a run of shelving, a desk, a set of internal doors, or a small hall floor. It is resistant to water, dirt and abrasion, and to wine, tea, cola and juice — and once cured it meets EN 71-3, so it is safe on cots, high chairs and toys.
What 750ml covers
At 24 m² per litre per coat, 750ml gives 18 m² in one coat, or about 9 m² finished in the two coats bare timber needs — a six-seat dining table with its chairs, roughly 3 metres of worktop done top and edges, or a small hallway.
For a full room of floorboards, the 2.5L tin works out considerably cheaper per square metre.
Before you order
- Sand furniture to P180–240 — finer than floors, which go to P120–150. Remove all dust before oiling.
- Apply it thin and work it along the grain. Over-application is what leaves a surface tacky days later.
- Do the undersides and edges of worktops. Sealing only the visible face lets moisture in from below and lifts the timber.
- Oil darkens timber permanently. On oak and walnut that is the appeal; on ash or maple it is a noticeable shift. A 5ml tester is €3.99 and settles both the colour and the sheen level.
- Not for oily hardwoods — cedar, iroko, mahogany, teak, sapele, bamboo, acacia, ipe, merbau, ebony, wenge, sycamore or rosewood. Use Osmo Wood Wax Finish Extra Thin on those.
- Cabinet interiors and drawers: one thin coat applied with a cloth, no more.
- Full cure takes 2–3 weeks. Usable after 8–10 hours, but avoid placing anything heavy or wet on it until then.
