Osmo Polyx Original Floor Oil - 5ml (Tester)
CHECK THE SHEEN AND THE COLOUR SHIFT FIRST
A 5ml sample sachet of Osmo Polyx-Oil Original — enough to coat a test patch roughly the size of a postcard on the timber you actually intend to finish.
There are two things about this product that no screen can show you. The first is sheen: 3062 Matt, 3032 Satin and 3011 Gloss look far more alike in a photograph than they do on a real floor under real light. The second, and the one that catches people out, is that oil darkens timber permanently — a deepened "wet look" that does not fade back as it cures. On oak most people want exactly that. On pale ash, maple or birch it can be a bigger change than expected.
How to sample properly
- Use an offcut of the same timber, or a hidden corner — inside a wardrobe, under a rug line, the back of a board.
- Sand it exactly as you will sand the real job: P120–150 for floors, P180–240 for furniture. A patch sanded finer than the finished job will not predict the result.
- Apply thinly along the grain, leave 8–10 hours, then apply the second coat — two coats is what the finished job gets, and one coat looks different.
- Judge it in daylight and from a standing height, not up close. Sheen reads completely differently at floor distance.
If you are choosing between two sheen levels, order both. At €3.99 a sachet it is a great deal cheaper than finishing a room in the wrong one.
