Surface Preparation:

  • Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and frost-free (maximum moisture content of 18%).
  • Osmo Polyx®-Oil Original is ready to use – do not thin. Stir well using a flat stirring stick or spatula before use.
  • Clean old microporous stains thoroughly. Completely remove old paints and lacquers.
  • Sand wood surfaces carefully:
    • Flooring: Final sanding with P120-150 grit.
    • Furniture: Final sanding with P180-240 grit.
  • Remove sanding dust with a broom or vacuum.
  • Fill small cracks or holes with Osmo Wood Filler as needed.
  • Note: A trial application is always required, especially for unfamiliar surfaces.

Method of Application:

  1. Using an Osmo Flat Brush, Floor Brush, Oil Finish Applicator Fleece, or Osmo Microfibre Roller, apply thinly along the wood grain and spread well.
  2. Allow drying for approximately 8-10 hours with good ventilation.
  3. Apply a second coat thinly after drying.
  4. The surface is fully cured after 2-3 weeks.
  5. For renovations or recoating, one thin coat on a clean and dry surface is usually sufficient.

Care Instructions:

  • Regular Cleaning:
    • Use Osmo green Dust-Mop, broom, or vacuum to remove debris.
    • Damp mop with diluted Osmo Wash and Care using an Osmo Micro-Mop Plush.
    • Avoid saturating the surface with water.
    • For convenience, use Osmo Spray-Mop for floors or Osmo Spray Cleaner with Osmo Easy Pads for smaller areas.
  • Occasional Maintenance:
    • Spot clean stubborn marks or refresh surfaces with Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner.
    • Alternatively, use Osmo Maintenance Oils for most Polyx Oil sheen levels (ensure surfaces are cleaned before application).
  • Recoating:
    • Reapply one coat when signs of wear are visible, ensuring the surface is clean and dry.

Important Notes:

  • Oils enhance the natural tone of wood, resulting in a permanent wet effect.
  • Applying the product too generously or insufficient ventilation can delay drying.
  • For dark and extractive-rich hardwoods (e.g., Wenge, Merbau, Jatoba), use Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin and conduct a trial application.
  • For cork surfaces, apply very thinly and allow longer drying times (at least 24 hours).
  • For cabinet interiors and drawers, apply max. one thin coat with a cloth.
  • For higher gloss levels, use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner very thinly and polish when dry. Avoid using it on surfaces not fully cured.

Recommended Woods:

  • Oak
  • Pine
  • Spruce
  • Beech
  • Ash
  • Alder
  • Douglas Fir
  • Birch
  • Larch
