Mirka Profile Foam Interface 81x133x25mm
A 7mm interface follows a shallow curve. It will not get into the hollow of a moulding. For that you need a lot more foam, and this is 25mm of it.
The Mirka Profile Foam Interface 81x133x25mm is a deep foam pad for profile sanding, and it is not sold bare: Mirka supply it with five Mirlon Total VF 360 pads, which is their non woven abrasive for surface conditioning. It is a kit for one specific job rather than a spare part.
The job it is for
Refreshing profiled joinery that is already coated. Doors, windows, mouldings and furniture, where you want to key the existing finish evenly over a shape without cutting through it on the arrises. The 25mm of foam compresses right into a hollow and back out over a bead, so the abrasive reaches the whole profile at roughly even pressure.
Mirlon Total VF is very fine and non woven, so it conditions and keys rather than removing material. That is the right tool for a recoat and the wrong one for taking a finish off.
Why this foam and not ordinary foam
Mirka build it from viscoelastic foam, the sort that deforms slowly under load and recovers afterwards rather than springing straight back. That is what lets it take the shape of a moulding and hold it for the length of a pass instead of pushing back and riding up out of the hollow. The whole thing is a double sided hook and loop slab weighing about 15 grams, so it adds no weight you will notice on the tool.
What it fits
Mirka specify the DEOS II 353 and their 70 x 125mm sanding blocks. The pad is the 81 by 133mm footprint, so it goes on the same plate as the standard 54 hole interface.
