Mirka Pad Saver 125mm 33 Hole (1 Pack)
A pad saver is the cheapest insurance on a sander. It is a thin disc that goes between the backing pad and the abrasive, and its only job is to be destroyed instead of the pad.
The Mirka Pad Saver 125mm 33 Hole is the 3mm sacrificial layer for a 125mm Deros. Single pad, which is the one to buy if you have never run one and want to see what it does to the life of your backing pad.
What it is not
It is not an interface. An interface is thicker foam and it changes how the tool cuts, softening the result for curves and contours. A pad saver is thin and does not cushion anything. If you are after a softer cut on a moulding, you want the interface, not this.
When Mirka say to use one
Their own guidance is that it matters most when you are sanding aggressively and continuously with net abrasives. Net is open mesh with grain on every strand, and the back of it works on the pad face the whole time the front is working on the wall. That is what wears the hook out.
Change it regularly. It is designed to be consumed, and a pad saver you have run too long has stopped protecting anything.
