Firm brushes control where the paint goes. Soft brushes control how it looks when it gets there.

The Silver Tip is Wooster's soft CT polyester — a fine, feather-stroke filament made for levelling. Where a firm brush pushes material around, this one lays it down and lets it flow out flat behind the tip.

When soft is the right answer

• Thinner paints — water-based satins, eggshells and glosses that self-level. A stiff brush leaves its own marks in these; a soft one stays out of the way.
• Finish coats, where the surface will be looked at closely and in raking light.
• Smooth substrates — previously painted trim, MDF, factory-primed joinery.

Where it's the wrong answer is thick, high-solids paint on a rough surface. A soft brush bends instead of spreading, and you'll fight it all day.

The angled tip

Angled for cutting in, so you get the fine finish and a usable edge together. It won't hold a long freehand line as confidently as the firm Gold Edge — softness always costs some control — but on a finish coat that's usually the trade you want.

Sizes

1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 inch. The 2 inch is the standard; go up for skirting and long runs, down for frames and detail.
