Two Fussy Blokes 14 Inch Microfibre Paint Roller Sleeve
Fourteen inches of sleeve is a decision about pace. On a long wall or a big ceiling it takes the number of passes down and keeps a wet edge alive, which is what stops a lap mark showing up later when the light crosses it.
The Two Fussy Blokes 14 Inch Microfibre Paint Roller Sleeve is 360mm of semi-smooth microfibre on a 38mm (1½ inch) core, so it drops onto any standard 14 inch cage frame. Two naps are stocked, and the choice between them is about the surface rather than the quality of the finish.
Choosing the nap
- 10mm — interior walls and ceilings, MDF, timber and plywood. The one for a sound, flat substrate where you want the finish as smooth as a roller will give it.
- 15mm — the same walls and ceilings once they carry a light texture. It holds noticeably more paint, so you reload less and move faster, and the finish stays close to the 10mm.
Working with it
Water-based paint only — primers and topcoats. This is not a sleeve for solvent gloss.
Rinse and spin it before the first use. New microfibre carries loose fibre, and thirty seconds under a tap keeps it out of your first coat. Loaded properly it releases evenly enough that laying off is usually unnecessary.
Wash it out after every use and keep the fabric damp between coats. Microfibre that dries hard does not come back, and that is what turns a sleeve you meant to reuse into a single-job sleeve.
What it is not
A 14 inch sleeve carrying a full load of paint is heavy, and heavier again on a pole above your head. If you have not worked at this width before, or the job is all ceilings, a 12 inch costs you very little time and a lot less shoulder. It is also the wrong tool for cutting in or for anything small.
