Oldfields 14 Inch Pro Series Micro-Max Roller Sleeve
The 14 inch Micro-Max sleeve lays down roughly half as much wall again per pass as a standard 9", which is where it pays — hallways, stairwells, larger rooms and ceilings, anywhere you get a clear run without stopping. Oldfields' Micro-Max fabric is a low-spatter, lint-free knit built to pick up and hold a lot of paint and release it evenly, so the extra width does not cost you the finish.
Choosing the nap. Stocked here in two lengths:
- 10mm — smooth to lightly textured surfaces. The general-purpose choice for plastered walls and ceilings.
- 15mm — semi-smooth and lightly textured surfaces. Holds more paint, so it covers faster and copes better with an open or patched surface.
What you need with it. A 14 inch frame — it will not go on a standard 9" frame — and something bigger than a standard tray to load from. A scuttle or a bucket and grid is the usual answer, and it is faster anyway at this width.
Is 14 the right size? It is the middle option, and often the sensible one: most of the speed of an 18" without the weight or the need for a heavy-duty cage frame. On broken-up walls with a lot of cutting in, the 9 inch is still quicker. On big open areas, the 18 inch pulls ahead.
Recommended for use with most paints on smooth to semi-smooth surfaces.
