Purdy Brush & Roller Cleaner
Rollers and brushes rarely wear out. They get thrown out. A sleeve washed while it's still full of paint never rinses properly, dries hard through the middle and ends up in the bin — when scraping the bulk of the paint out first would have saved it.
The Purdy Contractor Brush & Roller Cleaner is the tool for that first step.
How it works
- Two semi-circular cut-outs in a high carbon steel blade — a large radius for full-size sleeves, a smaller one for mini rollers. Run the sleeve through and the bulk of the paint is stripped out in a few strokes, before it ever reaches the sink.
- A brush comb along the tool, for working paint out from between the filaments and reshaping the brush afterwards.
- Non-slip handle with a thumb grip, so it stays under control when everything in your hands is wet.
Why the order matters
Paint that sits deep in a sleeve or down at the heel of a brush is precisely the part water never reaches. Left there it dries, stiffens the base of the filaments, and gradually reduces how much paint the tool will hold. The brush loses its point; the sleeve starts leaving tramlines. Getting the bulk out mechanically before water goes anywhere near it is the single habit that most extends the working life of a good applicator.
It's also less paint down the drain and less water used — which matters if you're washing out several sleeves at the end of a day.
