Petersons 4-Inch Paragon Polyacrylic Paint Roller Set

A complete small-roller kit for under eight euro: two 4 inch Paragon sleeves, a mini roller frame, and a 4 inch plastic tray.

Who it's for

Mini rollers do everything a 9 inch can't reach and a brush would leave marked — doors, cupboard fronts, panels, radiator backs, the narrow strips between windows, and the tight sections around fitted furniture.

Bought separately the pieces cost more than the set, so this is the sensible way in if you don't already own a mini frame.

The polyacrylic sleeves

Woven polyacrylic gives a smooth, even lay-down with good paint pick-up and release, and it holds up in water-based paints without matting down.

Two sleeves means you can run two colours at once, or simply have a spare for when the first has had enough.

Where a mini roller beats a brush

On a flat panel a roller leaves no brush marks at all — just a light, uniform stipple that flattens as the paint levels. On doors and cabinet fronts that's usually a better finish than brushing, and considerably quicker.

Cut the edges and detail in with a brush, roll the flats, and lay off if the paint calls for it.

Getting the finish right

Don't over-load the sleeve, and use the tray's ramp properly so paint works through the pile rather than sitting on the surface of it. A flooded mini roller runs at the edges of a panel, which is exactly where a run is most obvious.
