Mirka Edge Protector for 150mm Deros Sander
Run a 150mm sander along a skirting or into the corner of a reveal and it is the rim of the pad that makes contact. A few passes of that and the edge of the pad is chewed, which is the part you cannot repair.
The Mirka Edge Protector for 150mm Deros Sander is the guard that takes that contact instead. Mirka's own purpose for it is protecting the edge of the backing pad when you are sanding corners and edges, which is the work that destroys pads faster than anything else.
When it is worth fitting
Any job where you are working to a line rather than in open field: a room full of skirting and architrave, window reveals, a run of built in units, panel edges. If most of your sanding is the middle of flat surfaces you will never need it. If you spend the day against an edge, it pays for itself on the first pad you do not have to replace.
What it fits
The 150mm Deros, and only that. It is sized to the 150mm pad, so it does not transfer to the 125mm machine or to the Deos. Mirka make the equivalent for their other pad sizes where one exists.
It is one of three parts that protect the same pad
Worth knowing how they differ, because they are not alternatives and you can run all three at once.
- This edge protector: guards the rim of the pad against contact with the adjoining surface.
- A pad saver: a thin sacrificial layer that protects the hook and loop on the pad face from the back of the abrasive.
- An interface: foam that softens the cut on curves. It is not a protective part at all.
