Mirka Deros Backing Pad 125mm 5/16-Inch - Grip

The backing pad is the most expensive consumable on a sander and the one people run until it stops holding abrasive. Once the hook has gone furry, the disc creeps under load and the sanding pattern goes with it.

The Mirka Deros Backing Pad 125mm 5/16-Inch is the replacement Grip pad for a 125mm Deros: a 28 hole pattern, medium density, on the 5/16 inch thread. Mirka code 8292502511.

Medium is the general purpose density

Mirka build these pads in different densities. Medium is the middle of the range and the one that suits most work: firm enough to flat a panel, soft enough not to dig an edge in. A softer pad conforms more and cuts less; a harder one is for flat stock removal and is unforgiving on an arris.

Make the next one last longer

Fit a pad saver. It is a thin sacrificial layer that goes between the pad and the abrasive and takes the wear instead of the hook, and Mirka recommend one specifically for continuous sanding with net abrasives, which is hard on a pad face. A pad saver costs a fraction of this and is meant to be thrown away regularly.

For curves and contours you want an interface instead, which is a thicker foam cushion. The two are different parts for different reasons. Mirka list the 33 hole pad saver and the 33 hole interface against this 28 hole pad.
