Mirka Abranet Sanding Rolls 2.5m
Every so often the job needs a shape no pre-cut abrasive comes in. A long thin strip for a glazing bar, a wrap round a handrail, a piece sized to a block you have had for twenty years. That is what a roll is for.
The Mirka Abranet Sanding Rolls 2.5m are the same net abrasive as the discs and strips, supplied as a 115mm wide roll, 2.5 metres long, to cut to whatever you need. One roll makes about ten 115 by 230mm sheets, or a great many small pieces.
Why you would buy the roll
- Odd sizes: cut to fit a hand block that no longer has a matching pack, or trim down to get into a rebate.
- Profiles: a narrow strip wraps a bead or a spindle in a way a rigid sheet will not.
- Waste: on fiddly work you use a piece the size of your thumb, and cutting it off a roll beats halving a full sheet.
Grits
P80, P120, P180 and P240. That is a preparation range rather than a finishing one: filler and coatings at P80, flatting at P120, refining at P180 and a key at P240. For anything finer, the 125mm discs run to P600 and the Goldflex Soft roll goes finer still on foam.
Cutting it
Net cuts cleanly with scissors or a knife and it does not fray at the edge the way a paper backing does, so you can cut a piece to a line and it stays that shape. Cut it slightly under the size of your block rather than over: an overhanging edge is what catches and tears.
Dry use, and it wants the extraction running to do what net does. On a hand block with no vacuum you are better off with paper and a lower price.
