Mirka Abranet Sanding Discs 125mm (50 Pack)
125mm is the everyday random orbital size, and this is the grit set that takes it past preparation and into finishing.
The Mirka Abranet Sanding Discs 125mm are the net abrasive for a 125mm machine: the Deros 550, or the Deros 5650 with its small pad fitted. Net rather than paper, so extraction works across the whole face of the disc instead of through a ring of punched holes, which is what keeps it cutting on filler and soft coatings.
The grits we carry, and what is missing from them
P100, P150, P240, P320, P400, P500 and P600. Worth noting what is not there: no P80, and no P120 or P180. This is not the set for stripping back or heavy filler work. It starts where flatting starts and runs a long way past it.
- P100 and P150: flatting filler and taking down old coatings.
- P240 and P320: a paint-ready key, and denibbing after primer.
- P400 to P600: between coats on gloss and lacquer, where you are taking the nibs off a finished surface and nothing else.
Run something under it
The net is 2mm thick and it will follow whatever is beneath it, so what you put under it matters. A pad saver is a thin sacrificial layer that protects the hook and loop on the machine pad. An interface is thicker foam that lets the disc give on an uneven surface instead of catching an edge. Two parts, two reasons, and we stock both in 125mm.
Dry use
Mirka specify Abranet for dry sanding, by hand or by machine. By hand it works on a block as well as it does on a sander, which is useful on the last couple of passes when you want to feel the surface rather than drive over it.
