Q1 Contractor Grade Masking Tape

Not every masking job needs a premium tape. Bagging up a room, holding sheeting, protecting a surface for an afternoon — those want a tape cheap enough to use freely.

This is Q1's contractor grade: general-purpose paper masking tape in three widths.

Sizes

• 24mm (1 inch) × 50m — detail masking, holding, general use.
• 36mm (1.5 inch) × 50m — the middle size, and the most generally useful.
• 48mm (2 inch) × 50m — sheeting, bagging up, wide protection.

What contractor grade means

General-purpose rather than precision. Use it for holding, covering and protecting — work where the tape's job is to stay put for a day or two and then come off again.

Where it isn't the right tape: crisp paint lines on a finish coat, delicate or freshly painted surfaces, anything left on for more than a couple of days, and anything in direct sun. For those, a washi or precision-line tape is worth the difference.

Economising on the tape that makes your paint line is a false economy — the touch-up costs more than the roll.

Getting the best from it

Burnish the edge down firmly with a filling knife or your thumbnail. Most bleed is a sealing failure rather than a tape failure, and even a basic tape gives a respectable line if the edge is properly pressed home.

Returns — 14 days to change your mind and 14 more to send it back. Tinted paint is non-returnable once mixed.
