Render doesn't stick to everything. Apply a thin-coat synthetic, silicone or silicate render straight onto a smooth, dense or variably absorbent background and you'll get patchy suction, poor adhesion, and colour that dries unevenly across the elevation. Caparol Putzgrund 610 is the key coat that prevents all three.
It's a pigmented, quartz-filled primer, and two things are doing the work. The fine aggregate leaves a deliberately grippy, textured surface for the render to key into. The high opacity puts a uniform ground beneath a coloured topcoat, so the render's own colour reads true instead of shadowing whatever was underneath it.
Where it's used
- Under thin-coat renders — synthetic resin, silicone resin, silicate and mineral plasters, and coloured stone or mosaic plaster finishes.
- In Capatect external wall insulation systems, as the primer between basecoat and finishing render.
- Internally, as an opaque, keyed base coat over sound mineral surfaces and plasterboard.
Specification
- Composition: polyacrylic resin, alkali water glass, calcium carbonate, silicates, water and additives.
- VOC: maximum 1 g/l — far below the 40 g/l EU limit for this product category.
- Density: approximately 1.6 g/cm³.
- Application: brush, roller or suitable spray equipment.
- Tinting: up to 25% with CaparolColor or AmphiColor colourants.
Tinting is worth doing on coloured work. Bringing the primer close to the finish colour means any thin spot or slight variation in the render coat reads as texture rather than as a pale patch showing through.
Supplied in a 25kg tub. Allow to dry fully before rendering over — check the render's own data sheet for the required interval.
