Masking tape holds things to surfaces. Double-sided tape holds surfaces to each other — a different problem, and one that comes up more often than you'd expect.

This is 19mm hybrid double-sided tape, 25m per roll, two rolls per pack.

What it's actually for

Its main job on a decorating site is hanging polythene sheeting. A strip along a ceiling line or wall, press the sheet on, and you have a dust barrier or spray screen with nothing showing from the front and no tape flapping loose.

Beyond that:

• Joining sheeting to sheeting to make up a wider run.
• Holding masking film tight against glass or a frame.
• Fixing floor protection at doorways so it can't shift underfoot.
• Temporary fixing of trim, templates and mock-ups.

Why hybrid

A hybrid adhesive gives immediate grab while still releasing without residue — the balance you want when one face is going onto a customer's ceiling and the other is carrying the weight of a sheet.

Practical notes

Apply to a clean, dry surface. Dust is what makes double-sided tape fail, and it fails all at once rather than gradually — usually overnight, with the sheeting on the floor by morning.

Take it off as soon as the job's finished. All double-sided tape gets harder to lift the longer it stays put, and warmth speeds that up.
