Anza Flexible Stainless Steel Filling Knives
This is the narrow end of the filling knife range — the sizes you use for actual filling, as distinct from the wide blades used for skimming.
Flexible stainless steel blades in 25, 50, 75 and 100mm, with a hammerhead built into the handle and a soft grip.
Why flexible
A flexible blade conforms to the surface. Press in the middle and the edges lift slightly, which presses filler into the void and draws the surplus off flush in the same stroke.
A rigid blade scrapes material across the top of a hole rather than into it, and you find out a week later when the repair sinks. For lifting and scraping you do want a stiff blade — but that's a different tool.
Choosing the width
- 25mm — nail holes, screw heads, and getting into rebates and corners where anything wider won't sit flat.
- 50mm — the everyday size. Chips, small cracks, general making good.
- 75mm — longer cracks and patches, bridged in one pass rather than built up in strips.
- 100mm — the crossover into small skim repairs.
The hammerhead
The end of the handle is a hammer face, for tapping proud nails and screw heads below the surface. You find those while filling, and dealing with one without putting the knife down is worth considerably more than it sounds by the tenth time.
Stainless steel throughout, so they can sit in water between passes without rusting or leaving a mark in white filler.
