Amonn Amotherm Wood 450 SB Fire Retardant Topcoat - Clear 2K Kit
The second half of the system, and not optional. Amonn Amotherm Wood 450 SB Topcoat is the transparent two-component polyurethane that seals and protects the fire-retardant basecoat. The classification is for the pair — a basecoat left uncovered is not classified at all.
Sold as a complete 2K kit: 5 kg Component A + 5 L Component B hardener, mixed 1:1. Two finishes, set by which hardener is in the kit: Matt (12–18 gloss) or Dull Matt (7–12 gloss).
The rate that matters
Classification report CR-09.2025-1 certifies B-s1,d0 to EN 13501-1 at 160 g/m² of this topcoat over 200 g/m² of Amotherm Wood 450 SB Basecoat (300 g/m² if sanded between coats), on wood of at least 680 kg/m³ and 12 mm, fixed without an air gap.
How much you need
One kit gives roughly 10 kg of mixed topcoat — about 62 m² at 160 g/m². That is a little more than one basecoat kit covers, so one of each is the normal pairing for up to 50 m².
Working with it
- Timing: onto the basecoat within 8 hours of its last coat without sanding, or after 12 hours with a 220–240 grit sand. Miss both windows and the basecoat needs sanding and roughly 100 g/m² more product.
- Mix 1:1 with the hardener supplied. Pot life at least 3 hours.
- Apply by airless (60–120 bar, 0.011–0.015 inch), conventional spray or curtain coater. Brush possible, finish poorer.
- Drying: dust-dry 25 minutes, dry to handle and through-dry 24 hours. Work at 10°C or above, humidity below 60%.
- Keep to the stated rate — over-application clouds the film.
What it is not
It is not a fire-retardant coating on its own — that is the basecoat’s job. It is not for exterior use as supplied. It gives no UV or biological protection. And it is not a general-purpose varnish: at this price and pot life, use it only over Amotherm basecoat.
