Oldfields 18 Inch Pro Series Micro-Max Roller Sleeve

At 18 inches this is twice the width of a standard 9" sleeve, and it exists for one job: covering large uninterrupted areas quickly. Warehouse and unit walls, open-plan ceilings, long corridors, gable walls. Oldfields' Micro-Max fabric is a low-spatter, lint-free knit built to pick up and hold a lot of paint and release it evenly, which is what keeps the finish consistent at this width.

Choosing the nap. Stocked here in two lengths:

• 10mm — smooth to lightly textured surfaces. The general-purpose choice for plastered walls and ceilings.
• 15mm — semi-smooth and lightly textured surfaces. Holds more paint, so it covers faster and copes better with an open or patched surface.

What you need with it. An 18 inch frame with a proper cage — a light frame will flex and leave uneven pressure across the width — and a scuttle or bucket and grid to load from. A standard roller tray is no use at this size.

Be honest about the job first. Loaded with paint an 18" sleeve is heavy, and on a pole overhead it is hard work. It is much faster than a 9" on a clear wall and slower on a broken-up one, because every socket, window and radiator means putting it down. For rooms, the 9 inch or 14 inch Micro-Max is usually the better buy.

Recommended for use with most paints on smooth to semi-smooth surfaces.
