Wooster Silver Tip Soft Flat Sash Paint Brushes

At under a tenner for the 1.5 inch, this is the least expensive brush Wooster make that's still unmistakably a Wooster. If you've been meaning to find out what the fuss is about, it's a sensible place to start.

What you get for the money

The soft filament is built for levelling. It lays paint down and lets it flow out rather than pushing it around, and on a finish coat of water-based satin or gloss that's the difference between a surface with brush marks in it and one without.

Square-ended, so it's a covering brush: door panels, skirting, window boards, general trim. It isn't a cutting-in brush — for that you want the angled version.

What it isn't

It's soft, which means it won't move thick, high-solids paint and won't hold a line the way a firm brush does. On heavy waterborne trim paints, or cutting freehand along a long ceiling line, you'll be happier with the Gold Edge.

Bought for finish coats on smooth surfaces, it's excellent value. Bought as a do-everything brush, you'll find its limits by lunchtime.

Sizes

1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 inch. The 2.5 is the natural size for doors; the 1.5 for narrow trim and touching in.
