Juno D-17 is the workhorse of the Juno thinner range — the one to stock if you'd rather not keep four separate tins on the van.

Where D-16 is a mild mineral thinner, D-17 is formulated on aromatic hydrocarbons, which gives it noticeably more solvent strength. That extra bite is what lets one product work across synthetic enamels and primers, polyurethane varnishes, pliolite coatings and chlorinated rubber alike.

What it thins

  • Synthetic enamels and primers — for brush, roller or spray application.
  • Polyurethane varnishes.
  • Pliolite coatings, including the exterior masonry paints used when conditions are too cool or damp for a standard emulsion.
  • Chlorinated rubber enamels, as used on pools, plant rooms and floors.

It also cleans brushes, rollers, guns and lines after any of the above.

Getting it right

Because it's a stronger solvent than D-16, D-17 will attack coatings a mineral thinner leaves alone. Test on an offcut before thinning anything you're unsure of, and don't use it on a surface where you need the existing film left intact.

Dilute at the rate specified in the data sheet for the paint being thinned, then stir slowly until fully homogenous. Going beyond the recommended amount reduces opacity and film build — you'll end up applying an extra coat to get back what you lost.

Supplied in 1 litre. Solvent-based — ventilate the work area, wear suitable gloves, and keep away from ignition sources. Always check the paint manufacturer's own data sheet before thinning.
