Ronseal Multi-Purpose Wood Filler
Most wood filler failures happen at one of two points: the repair shrinks back and leaves a dish, or it cracks the first time the timber moves. Ronseal Multi Purpose Wood Filler is a ready-mixed, flexible-formula filler designed to avoid both.
It's for repairing holes, splits, cracks and damaged edges in interior and exterior wood — window frames, doors, skirting, sills, garden furniture, floorboards. Straight from the tub: no mixing, no ratio to get wrong, no waste from a batch that goes off before you've used it.
Working with it
- Dries in about two hours, at which point it's a genuinely hard repair rather than a soft patch.
- Takes work like timber does once cured — sand it, plane it, file it, drill it, nail it, screw into it. That last point matters when you're repairing a hinge or lock rebate where a screw has pulled out.
- Fill deep holes in 5mm layers, two hours between each. Filling deep in one pass is the usual cause of a soft centre and a repair that sinks a week later.
- Flexible formula resists the shrinking and cracking that ruins a repair on exterior joinery over a winter.
Finishing
Can be stained, varnished or painted. If the repair is going under a clear or stained finish, pick the colour closest to your timber and test on an offcut first — filler and wood never take stain at quite the same rate, so a repair that disappears under paint may still read slightly under a clear coat. Under paint, the colour choice doesn't matter.
