Mirka Dust Extractor 1230 L AFC Automatic 230V
For the sanding where nobody has written “M-class” on the spec — softwood, general site dust, flatting filler and paint on walls and ceilings — an L-class extractor does the job, and does it with more pull than most people expect.
The Mirka Dust Extractor 1230 L AFC is the previous-generation Mirka 30 litre machine: a 1,200 W motor and turbine giving 75 litres a second (270 m³/h) at 25 kPa, with automatic filter cleaning, auto-start for the sander, and a fleece bag in the box. Hose not included — it takes the Mirka 27 mm antistatic hose.
L-class, and what that means
Dust class L is rated for dusts with an occupational exposure limit above 1 mg/m³ — the general run of construction and decorating dust — with a filter that passes no more than 1%. Dusts with a tighter limit, the ones a risk assessment flags as M-class, need the DEXOS 1230 M. Which class the job needs is a risk-assessment question, not a catalogue one: if the assessment says M, this is not the extractor; if it says L, this is more machine than the job needs.
The numbers that matter
- 75 l/s (270 m³/h), 25 kPa — measured at the container.
- 30 litre container, dry or wet.
- 68 dB(A) — the quiet one in the range.
- Auto-start — plug the sander into the extractor (up to 1,750 W) and it starts and stops with the tool. Supplied with a UK plug.
- 14.5 kg, large wheels, a flat top for a tray or a tool, and hose and cable storage.
Working with it
Automatic filter cleaning knocks the filter clear while you work, so suction holds through a day rather than fading as the bag fills. The filter is 0.5 m². Use the Mirka 1230 fleece bags — the ones for this machine, not the DEXOS bags, which are a different part.
What it is not
Not M-class, and not the current model. Mirka has replaced the 1230 with the DEXOS range, so this is the last of the earlier generation, at the earlier price. Register it with Mirka for the warranty.
