Mirka DEROS II 5650 125/150mm 5.0mm
Buying one pad size means deciding in advance what sort of work is coming in. The 5650 is Mirka's answer to that: the same DEROS II machine, supplied with both pads in a case.
The Mirka DEROS II 5650 125/150mm is a direct electric random orbital sander with a 5mm orbit and a 400 W brushless motor, and it comes with a 150mm pad and a 125mm pad. Mirka call it the 2 in 1 backing pad solution, and it ships in a plastic case rather than a box.
Why you would want both sizes
150mm clears a door or a panel in fewer passes. 125mm reaches into a frame, sits steadier in one hand, and is the kinder option on veneer or thin painted joinery where a bigger pad can cut an arris before you notice. Swapping between them takes a couple of minutes.
Against a single size machine
This costs more than a 550 or a 650 on its own, and a good deal less than owning both. So the question is simply whether one pad size would do you. If your week is flat panels, the 650 is enough machine. If you keep wishing you had the other size on the van, this is what stops that.
Running it
4,000 to 10,000 rpm, set on a lever with LED indicators, and the on and off switch is separate so putting it down does not lose the setting. Brushless, so it holds speed under load. It is central vacuum ready, meaning it expects an extractor rather than a bag, and the hose is bought separately.
The vibration figure, read properly
Mirka publish 3.4 m/s² here, with a measurement uncertainty of 1.5 m/s². Their manual is explicit that these are laboratory values, that they are not enough on their own for a risk assessment, and that a reading taken on a real job can be higher. The tool has a vibration sensor and reports to the myMirka app, so the useful number is the one you measure yourself.
What it is not for
Dry sanding. The manual says the tool must not be exposed to rain or wet conditions, since water getting inside raises the risk of electric shock, and it calls for a face mask, safety glasses, ear protection and gloves.
