Mirka DecoSander 80 x 230mm & 225mm
A ceiling sanded off a hand block means a ladder, and a ladder means moving it every two square metres. A pole sander keeps you on the floor. One with extraction on it keeps the dust out of the room as well.
The Mirka DecoSander 80 x 230mm & 225mm is a manual pole sander for walls and ceilings. No motor, so nothing to plug in or burn out: the work comes from you, and the hose takes the dust away. At under 0.8kg it is lighter than most hand blocks with a pole on them.
Two pad formats, and what each is for
The head takes both, and they swap over on a Click and Slide fitting rather than screws.
- 80 x 230mm rectangular: Mirka put this one at corners, detail and confined areas. The square end is what lets you work into an angle or up to a cornice. We stock Abranet strips in this size in P80, P120 and P180.
- 225mm round: the one for covering ground on open wall and ceiling. We stock 225mm Abranet in P80, P120, P150, P180 and P240, which is the same disc the Leros takes.
How it actually feels to use
The extraction pulls the head onto the surface as you sand, which is Mirka's own description of how the tool works, so you are guiding it rather than pressing it. That takes a pass or two to trust. The airflow is adjustable, and the head is built to resist tipping or flipping when you run off an edge, which is where a cheap pole sander digs a corner in and leaves you filling it again.
The shaft is telescopic, 1.1m retracted out to 1.8m. The swivel assembly between shaft and head gives 180 degrees, so the pad stays flat on the ceiling while the pole is at whatever angle suits your back.
This or the Leros
The Leros 950CV does the same job with a motor, a 225mm random orbital head and considerably more money. The honest split: if you sand ceilings most weeks, the Leros earns it and your shoulders will tell you so. If ceilings are an occasional part of the work, the DecoSander does it for a fraction of the outlay, and it needs no service, no brushes and no registration.
What Mirka supply with it
The telescopic pole, the swivel assembly, a 27mm and 32mm hose with connector, a carry bag and a sample pack of abrasives. Replacement pads in both formats are sold on their own, as is the pole and the bag. It wants an extractor on the end of that hose: Mirka pair it with the DEXOS 1217 and the 1230 machines, all of which we stock.
