Mirka Abranet Sanding Discs 225mm (25 Pack)
Filler on a skimmed wall or ceiling has to come flat, and the dust has to go somewhere other than the room you are standing in. That is the job this disc was built for.
The Mirka Abranet Sanding Discs 225mm are a net abrasive rather than a paper one. Instead of a solid backing with extraction holes punched through it, the whole disc is an open polyamide mesh, so dust comes off the full face. Mirka put it at no more than 0.5mm between any sanding grain and an extraction hole.
What it is for
Mirka developed Abranet for putty, primers and lacquers, and this is the 225mm disc for their wall and ceiling machines: the Leros 950CV, and the DecoSander pole sander for working by hand with extraction attached. Both are stocked here.
The grits we stock
- P80: proud filler only, where a joint or a patch stands above the surface.
- P120: the grit Mirka name for flattening filler.
- P150: the step in between, when P120 leaves more scratch than you want to prime over.
- P180: refining after the flattening pass.
- P240: a paint-ready key.
Working with it
Run a pad saver between the machine pad and the disc. It is a thin sacrificial layer and it keeps the hook and loop on the backing pad alive by wearing out in its place. An interface does a different job: it is thicker foam, and it lets the net follow a slightly uneven surface instead of digging a corner in. Mirka make both in 225mm on the 25 hole pattern the Leros uses.
Net holds off clogging far better than paper on filler and fresh paint, and that is the reason to buy it, but it does that by moving air through the mesh. With the extraction off or the hose blocked, it will load up like any other abrasive.
Before you order
These are the discs for the Mirka 225mm wall sanders named above. If you are running another make of 225mm sander, talk to us before you order and we will check the pad and the extraction against it.
