Anza Wallpaper Hanging Seam Roller

Wallpaper almost never fails in the middle of a drop. It fails at the seams — and the seam roller is what decides whether they stay down.

A joint that lifts a month later usually wasn't rolled at all, or was rolled too late, once the paste had already started to set.

This is a seam roller with a soft-grip handle, threaded to take Anza extension poles.

Getting seams right

• Roll while the paste is still open — a few minutes after hanging, not at the end of the wall.
• Roll along the seam, not across it. Light, steady pressure straight down the joint.
• Don't overdo it. Too much pressure squeezes paste out from under the edges, and that's what leaves a shiny line down every joint.
• Wipe squeezed-out paste immediately with a damp sponge, particularly on vinyls where it dries glossy and permanent.

The pole thread

It takes an Anza extension pole, which matters more than it sounds. Rolling seams at ceiling height off a ladder means shifting the ladder for every drop. On a pole you walk the length of the wall and do them all from the floor.

One caution

Don't use a seam roller on heavily embossed or delicate papers. It crushes the texture along the joint and the flattened line shows up in every light. On those, press the seam home with a paperhanging brush instead.
